The Oxford dictionary defines resolution as a firm decision to do or not to do something. Dictionary.com defines resolution as a formal expression of opinion or intention made.
According to Wikipedia a New Year’s resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. A key element to a New Year’s Resolution that sets it apart from other resolutions is that it is made in anticipation of the New Year and new beginnings. People committing themselves to a New Year’s resolution generally plan to do so for the whole following year. This lifestyle change is generally interpreted as advantageous.
So why do people make these resolutions? If we want to change things then why do we wait until January 1st to make changes? Why just not resolve to make changes whenever we feel the need to make change? Does it make a difference when we make the change?
The problem with making those resolutions on New Year’s Day is that there is a pressure to make those changes and typically people are not ready to make those changes. Recent studies show that 85% – 90% of all resolutions made at New Year’s Day fail.
So for me, instead of a resolution, I will just say that I will try to be a regular poster on my blogs. I am going to start the Project 52 over on my Photo Blog which means posting at photo at least once per week. I will also try to post at least once per week on this blog.
Have yourself a Happy, Safe, Healthy and Prosperous 2013.
Well, after 7 months off from writing on my blog, I decided it was time to get back to posting. I have had several things to say in the last few months but didn’t really have the gumption to write. I don’t know why but it was one of those things I think all those who enjoy writing go through (except for MasterMaq of course). The beginning of a new year seemed like the right time to start it back up.
Having said that, if you want to take a look at my prior years posts you can go to my archives (listed in the right hand column) or you can start fresh with me this year.
So I would like to start this year off wishing everyone a happy, safe and prosperous 2010. I would like to share a couple of my favorite new years quotes with you to get you going:
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. ~Bill Vaughan
So are you an optimist or a pessimist? I am always an optimist.
New Year’s Day: Now is the accepted time to make your regular annual good resolutions. Next week you can begin paving hell with them as usual. ~Mark Twain
What resolutions did you make and is this the first year you have made them? If you have made them before then why did you fail the last time? I am curious as to why people fail at their resolutions.
